Passenger Car Event Data Recorders

Passenger Car Event Data Recorders (Black Box)

Most modern passenger cars are equipped with event data recorders (EDR), also known as "Black Box". These vehicles have the ability to record data from many seconds pre-crash, and crash pulse data from the collision sequence.

This information can give you insight into how or why the collision occurred. James Loftis is one of a small handful of instructors who teach investigators how to "analyze" this data and apply it to a crash investigation/reconstruction.

James has also conducted more than 20 live, staged collisions at high speeds to validate the data obtained in these EDR's and compare them to traditional methods of calculating speeds from collisions.
